EEFC - Jail Ministry

Elgin Evangelical Free Church participates in jail ministry at the Kane County Jail. A team of
men and women go to the jail one Sunday night of the month to hold church services for
inmates.

The church jail ministry was introduced to our church through the Dominguez family. Manuel
Dominguez participated in jail ministry for over forty years. The team was made up of
representatives from a variety of churches. His son, Steve, was asked to take over the
leadership of the team, and over time the team has grown to now be three different teams.
One of the three teams is almost completely comprised of Elgin Evangelical Free Church
members.

Another aspect of the jail ministry is correspondence lessons that are done with the inmates.
This part of the ministry was completely done by Elgin Bible church for many years. However,
the demand for this ministry grew so heavily that Elgin Evangelical Free Church now helps
with the correspondence ministry as well.

This ministry has been more fruitful and has changed more lives than any other ministry that
the leaders of this ministry have ever been a part of. Steve Dominguez says that is what
makes this ministry addicting. "Several times we see people saved in services and by the
correspondence ministry. Many times those saved in the jail become great evangelists to
other inmates. It's exciting stuff."
